Beginnings ~ Out With The Old, In With The New

Well, this is one thing I thought I'd never do... blog. I guess this can be one of my New Year's resolutions. I have not decided yet what this blog will be. Stories from my life ~ Book reviews ~ Movie reviews ~ Music reviews ~ Anime reviews ~ maybe even a few Manga reviews. I'll see where this takes me.

Today is New Year's Eve; the end of a not-so-great year for me. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, and hopefully a year full of fun.

There's an odd tradition in my family. Every year on New Years Day, we always eat a ton of blackeyed peas, regardless of what food we eat with it. Pizza, seafood, Mexican, Chinese... it always comes with blackeyed peas. Why? I'm not exactly sure. I can't quite remember how the story goes. It has something to do with, the more peas you eat, the more money you'll make in the following year. I wonder if anyone else has ever heard of a tradition like this, or if it's just something my great-great Grandparents made up to get their kids to eat their veggies? Try it out yourself; maybe you'll get lucky and win the lottery. Who knows? Hey, stranger things have happened. ^..^

~ Movie Review ~

Yesterday, I watched a movie called Nicholas Nickleby. It's based on the Charles Dickens novel. It was surprisingly good, in fact, certain parts of it almost made me cry. It takes a lot for a movie to make me want to cry. When watching this movie, you immediately fall in love with the main character Nicholas (Charlie Matthew Hunnam ). He has such a kind heart and pure spirit, that you just can't help rooting for him from the start. And Smike (Jamie Bell) is also very endearing. He the kind of person you would want as a best friend; loyal, honest, and happily devoted to his new-found family.
Quote from the beginning of the movie:

"What happens when the light first pierces the dark dampness in which we have waited? We are slapped and cut loose. If we are lucky, someone is there to catch us and persuade us that we are safe. But are we safe? What happens if, too early, we lose a parent? That party on whom we rely for only everything? Why, we are cut loose again and we wonder, even dread whose hands will catch us now? There once lived a man named Nicholas Nickleby... "
I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars. **** To anyone who enjoys historical fiction, it's well worth renting.
Now I want to read the book. Hopefully, I'll review it too in the next few months.
